Just in time for Valentine's Day Ziegfeld Theatre is hosting a special engagement for one week only of two of the greatest New York love stories of all time: West Side Story and Funny Girl on screen. They will play from February 12 through the 18 with no shows on Wednesday, February 17.

Funny Girl the film was directed by William Wyler in 1968.  It was adapted from the stage musical of the same name. It is based on the life and career of Broadway and film star and comedienne Fanny Brice and her stormy relationship with entrepreneur and gambler Nicky Arnstein. Barbra Streisand, reprising her Broadway role, won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance, an honor she shared with Katharine Hepburn for The Lion in Winter. In 2006, the American Film Institute ranked the film #16 on its list commemorating 100 Years of Musicals. Previously it had ranked the film #41 in its 2002 list of 100 Years ... 100 Passions, the songs "People" and "Don't Rain on My Parade" at #13 and #46, respectively, in its 2004 list of 100 Years ... 100 Songs, and the line "Hello, gorgeous" at #81 in its 2005 list of 100 Years ... 100 Movie Quotes.

West Side Story the film was adapted from the 1957 Broadway musical. It was released in 1961 and directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins. It received praise from critics and the public, and became the second highest grossing film of the year in the United States. The film won ten Academy Awards in its eleven nominated categories, including Best Picture, as well as a special award for Robbins. The film holds the distinction of being the musical film with the most Academy Award wins (10 wins), including Best Picture.

The current Broadway revival of WEST SIDE STORY is currently playing the Palace Theatre, directed by its two-time Tony Award winning librettist Arthur Laurents with the original Jerome Robbins choreography restaged by Tony Award nominee Joey McKneely. Tickets for the Broadway production of WEST SIDE STORY at the Palace Theatre are on sale at www.tickemaster.com (212-307-4100) or at the Palace Theatre box office. WEST SIDE STORY plays Tuesday at 7 p.m., Wednesday - Saturday at 8 p.m., Wednesday and Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Broadway ticket prices are $121.50 - 46.50. For more information, visit www.broadwaywestsidestory.com.

The Ziegfeld Theatre was a Broadway theatre formerly located at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 54th Street in Manhattan, New York City. It was built in 1927 and razed in 1966. The theatre was named for Florenz Ziegfeld, who built the theatre with financial backing from William Randolph Hearst. The 'new' Zeigfeld Theater, built just a few hundred feet from the original Ziegfeld theater, opened in December 1969 and the movie house was one of the last big palaces built in the United States. The Ziegfeld is, arguably, the last movie palace still showing films in Manhattan.
