ZHUMONKEYMUSIC will present a musical benefit for the victims of the massive earthquake and devastation to the Sichuan Province of China on Monday, June 23 at 7 p.m. at Evergreen Restaurant, 10 East 38 Street (between Fifth & Madison). Performers scheduled to appear include Li Jun Li (currently appearing as Liat in "South Pacific"), Jason Tam (Paul in "A Chorus Line"), Grammy nominee Ruben Flores, Ali Ewoldt (Cosette in "Les Miserables"), Heather Parcells (Judy Turner in "A Chorus Line"), Zach James ("Coram Boy," "South Pacific"), Aaron J. Albano ("Spelling Bee," "Mary Poppins"), Garrett Long ("South Pacific"), Kevin Bernard ("Curtains"), Laura Schutter ("Mary Poppins"), MaryAnn Hu ("South Pacific"), Deborah Lew ("Beauty and the Beast"), T. Oliver Reid (Encores! "Damn Yankees"), Jeremy Davis ("South Pacific"), Diane Phelan ("West Side Story" 50th Anniversary Tour), Joanne Javien ("Thoroughly Modern Millie"), Emily Morales ("South Pacific"), and Christopher DiCristo (Broadway Boys). The musical director for the concert will be Mat Eisentein.
All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross, directly benefiting the victims of the Sichuan, China earthquake. Richard Feng Zhu, organizer of the event and executive director of ZHUMONKEYMUSIC hopes the evening will not only entertain, but will also make a difference in the lives of those affected by the disaster. Zhu recently stated, "The essence of this event is not only to raise money for the tens and thousands of people who are in need now, but also to inspire those in attendance to continue to help in the future."
At most recent count, 69,163 people were reported dead, with 18,627 missing and 374,142 injured after the 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck China's Sichuan province on May 12, 2008. This disaster and its numerous aftershocks have caused mass devastation to the region. Donations from the evening will help with relief efforts throughout Sichuan, providing food, water and other essentials to those in need.
This musical event is made possible by a generous $15,000 contribution from Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and additional support provided by Evergreen Restaurant and ZHUMONKEYMUSIC. A representative from the Chinese Embassy will be present to help honor Broadway Cares for their generous donation.
Appetizers and wine will be served beginning at 6 p.m. The concert begins at 7 p.m.
