The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) in association with Montsgo Project and Geranium Theatre will present The Boy in the  Bathroom, a new musical with book and lyrics and directed by Michael Lluberes, music and additional lyrics by Joe Maloney.  Performances will take place September 17 – 26.  The official opening is set for Monday, September 17 at 8:00 PM.

"David lives in his bathroom. He never comes out. His mother feeds him thin, flat food she can slide under the door. He has everything heneeds. David has obsessive-compulsive disorder and he's not going  anywhere... until he meets Julie... and discovers that there might be something - or someone - on the other side of the door that will make it worth opening," state press notes.

The Boy in the Bathroom features a stellar cast including Michael Zahler (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) as David – the boy in the bathroom, Ana Nogeira making her New York debut as Julie, and Mary Stout (Jane Eyre, original Broadway cast; Beauty and the Beast) as Pam – his mother.

The Boy in the Bathroom was selected as one of only 18 new musicals for NYMF's Next Link Project. Through a blind submission process, over 400 works were evaluated by a committee of theater professionals and selected by a grand jury made up of Tony winners: actress Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza), actor B.D. Wong (Pacific Overtures, M. Butterfly), librettist Rachel Sheinkin (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), producers Margo Lion and Adam Epstein (Hairspray) and two-time Tony nominee Casey Nicholaw (The Drowsy Chaperone, Spamalot).

Michael Lluberes has adapted and directed numerous New York and regional productions, including: The Geranium on the Window Sill Just  Died (Urban Stages), among others. He has also acted Off-Broadway and across the country in a variety of pieces including Pudd'nhead Wilson (world premiere), American Dreams: Lost and Found (The Acting Company,  world premiere), The Food Chain (The Old Globe), Man of La Mancha (Maltz Jupiter Theatre), Twelfth Night (Cincinnati Playhouse/Rep Theatre of St. Louis), etc. TV credits include: Chappelle's Show. Lluberes is a proud alumnus of the North Carolina School of the Arts and The Acting Company.

Set Design is by Scott Easter (Theater: September 19, Via Dance Collaborative; The Geranium in the Window Sill is Dead, Urban Stages. TV: Democratic and Republican Debates, ABC News; "Entertainment Tonight"), Sound Design is by Elizabeth Rhodes (Steve Martin's adaptation of The Underpants, John Patrick's Shanley's Dirty Story and Sailor Song), Lighting Design is by Carrie Wood (B'way: The Threepenny Opera.  NY: VIA Dance Collaborative, Lincoln Center Clark Studio; Beyond the Horizon, Center Stage), and Costume Design is by Lisa Renee Jordan (Thicker Than Water, Ensemble Studio Theatre; The Witching Hour and Triangle, Williamstown Theatre Festival).

Now in its 4th year, The New York Musical Theatre Festival is the largest musical theatre event in America.  NYMF premiered 99 new musicals during its first three seasons, with more than a dozen of  these shows transferring to successful off-Broadway and regional productions.  Hailed as "the Sundance of Musical Theatre," NYMF is widely regarded as the premier source for new material and talent discovery.

NYMF is a flagship program of The National Music Theater Network, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, and is presented by BroadwayWorld.com in association with amNewYork, Ars Nova, GSD Productions, King Displays, Panasonic Astrovision, Playbill, Variety Magazine and Verizon Wireless, and is proudly supported by Backstage, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Broadway Bullet, BroadwayBox.com, BroadwayInsider.com, Choice Signs, City Theatricals, Frank & Camille's Fine Pianos, HX Magazine, Port Authority of NY and NJ, Seasons of Savings, Tekserve, TheatreMania.com, TheMENevent, Virgin Megastore and Wybron.
