Young Players Theater is proud to announce their first annual playwriting festival for young writers -- Young Players, Young Playwrights New Work Festival.
For the past six years, Young Players Theater has been a staple for young theater artists in Brooklyn. During the year, we provide afterschool classes and residencies that allow students to express their unique perspectives through devised
Theater Productions. Now, we want to give teens an opportunity to share their voices with us. If given the freedom and opportunity, what do they have to say? We are accepting submissions from students currently enrolled in middle school and high school and will ultimately choice the top four plays from each age group. These final eight plays will be staged by professional directors, providing these young artists with the opportunity to get to see their work performed onstage by professional actors in New York City!
Guidelines: To enter, all playwrights must be currently enrolled in Middle School or High School. All plays must be no longer than 10 minutes, but can be in any genre. Please bear in mind that this is a festival, so minimal design needs are preferred. Students across the US are eligible, but the final performance of the chosen plays will take place in New York City.
Submission: There is no submission fee. Scripts can be submitted through our website at
www.yptheater.org or mailed directly to marielle@yptheater.org. Your submission must include your cover letter (found on our website) and your play.
Script submissions must follow standard stage play formatting. Please use one inch margins and 12-point. Please make sure your script is no more than 10 pages long.
The submission deadline is 5pm on January 15, 2014.
