For one week from April 24 to April 30, the Cantare division of the Young People's Chorus of New York City (YPC) will be one of only six of the world's children's choirs invited to participate in the Adolf Fredrik Let the Future Sing 2012 International Children's and Youth Choir Festival in Stockholm, Sweden. Led by YPC Associate Conductor Elizabeth Núñez, YPC is the first American choir ever invited to take part in this prestigious festival.

Let the Future Sing Festival was established not only for children from different parts of the world to share their music with each other but also to provide the participants with a deeper knowledge and greater understanding of cultures of the country of the choirs taking part, this year Armenia, Canada, China, Estonia, Hungary, and the U.S. In addition, for the duration of the festival, all children will be housed in the homes of students from the Adolf Fredrik Music School, giving visiting choristers the opportunity to experience first-hand how children from Sweden live their everyday lives and providing their Swedish hosts with the same opportunity.

The five other children's choruses participating with YPC in the Let the Future Sing Festival are:

Toronto Children's Chorus from Canada

Lastekoor Ellerhein from Estonia

Little Singers of Armenia Guangzhou

Experimental Middle School Choir from China

Cantemus Children's Choir from Hungary

On each day from April 25 to 29 festival guest choirs will lead workshops of music from each of their own lands and participate in several concerts at venues that include St. Jacob's Church, the Filadelfiakyrkan Concert Hall, and the Adolf Fredrik's Church with all concerts and workshops free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. YPC workshops on April 25 and 26 will be led by Elizabeth Núñez, with Francisco J. Núñez, artistic director and founder of YPC, and special guest American composer Derek Bermel. A highlight of YPC's April 28 concert at the Filadelfiakyrkan will be the Swedish premiere of Derek Bermel's "A Child's War," with the composer in attendance. Let the Future Sing comes to a festive close on April 30, when all guest choirs, together with all of the Adolf Fredrik Music School choirs, raise their voices in song on Valpurgis, northern and central Europe's traditional spring celebration.
