Press materials state, "
You Can't Take It With You is a heartwarming tale from the 1930's about dissimilar families joined with a marriage proposal. The Sycamore family is a collection of passionate individuals each pursuing happiness in their own unique way. Firework manufacturing, playwriting, ballet dancing, xylophone playing, and snake hunting fill the house with life. Alice Sycamore nervously anticipates introducing her fiancé Tony, of the affluent and conservative Kirbys, to her eccentric and unconventional family. When the families finally meet it is an explosive occasion--both literal and metaphorical--worse than Alice ever could have imagined, as everyone ends up in jail! Propelled by Grandpa's confrontation with Mr. Kirby about the true value of life, the families are forced to resolve their tensions and learn the significance of the words, '
You Can't Take It With You.'"
