The women of Yeshiva University's Stern College Dramatic Society (SCDS) present an all-women performance of THE GAME'S AFOOT at the Schottenstein Theater (560 West 185th street) Sunday, December 16 - Thursday, December 20.
A GAME'S AFOOT is a fast paced farcical comedy by Ken Ludwig. Set in December, 1936, the play follows Broadway star William Gillette, famous for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, and his fellow cast members during a holiday weekend at Gillette's Connecticut castle. When one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house quickly turn dangerous.
Run-time: 2 hours and 15 minutes (including one 10-minute intermission).
SCDS was drawn to produce this all-women-run comedy because of the rare opportunity to work in roles, both on and off-stage, that are usually filled by men. SCDS leadership have used A GAME'S AFOOT to hone their management skills in marketing and financing. They've also built out the THE GAME'S AFOOT set and props, and have excelled in carpentry and design. On stage, the women of SCDS expand their acting talents and play the role of the male characters with a feminine twist.

The Stern College Dramatics Society offers young Jewish women the opportunity to work in the secular performing arts while adhering to the ethos of Orthodox Jewish culture. With a range of creative outlets, from acting to special effects to lighting design, the theatre helps students develop self-expression and confidence. SCDS welcomes people from all religious and ethnic backgrounds, and encourages all participants to pursue their dreams - both on and backstage.
Recent achievements for Stern College's theatre program include increased funding (by 200%), access to Yeshiva University's Schottenstein Theater, and accreditation of theatre production as a course on the syllabus. This all comes after years of hard work from the dedicated women of this student-driven organization.
