Jellyfish Jive Productions releases the Original Off-Broadway Cast recording of John Tartaglia's ImaginOcean on Yellow Sound Label on July 27. The Official Cast album features the vocal talents of Tony and Emmy Award Nominee John Tartaglia, who created and wrote the undersea family musical adventure that opened on March 31, 2010 at New World Stages in New York.
The new glow-in-the-dark "swinging" sea tale is the brainchild of Broadway and television star,
John Tartaglia, who is known for his portrayals of Rod/Princeton in the original cast of Avenue Q and for his critically acclaimed kids TV show on Disney's Playhouse, Johnny and the Sprites. Tartaglia is the voice of ImaginOcean's fish friends Dorsel and Tank as well as Leonard, the loveable Octopus, in the interactive fifty-minute family musical spectacle.
To celebrate the launch of the Original Cast recording,
John Tartaglia and the cast of ImaginOcean will be appearing at Barnes & Noble (150 East 86th Street at Lexington Avenue) on July 28 at 7pm. Tartaglia will perform accompanied by the cast of ImaginOcean, who will all be on hand to sign copies of the cast recording.
The lively kid-friendly album includes music, lyrics and orchestrations by
William Wade, performed by a fourteen piece orchestra and an ensemble of singers. In addition to Tartaglia, vocal performances include ImaginOcean Director
Donna Drake as the voice of Bubbles, the female fish of the trio, and ImaginOcean Producer and veteran Broadway musical performer
Michael Shawn Lewis, who lends his voice as Ripple, the tiny but mighty Seahorse.
John Tartaglia's ImaginOcean takes audiences on a live musical voyage to the bottom of the ocean floor and follows the aquatic adventures of a loveable trio of fish friends, Dorsel, Tank and Bubbles, who uncover a treasure map which leads them to new friends and unexpected places along the way. The CD contains all the songs in the original production as well as two bonus tracks: a dance remix of "Jellyfish Jive" and "The Treasure" performed by a chorus of children.
The release of
John Tartaglia's ImaginOcean is the premier cast album produced by
Michael Croiter and
Bill Sherman, who head up Yellow Sound Label. Previous productions include projects for
Chita Rivera and
Alan Cumming. Croiter also heads up Yellow Sound Lab and has been nominated for a 2010 Daytime Emmy for Sound Mixing for The Electric Company on PBS. He received an Emmy Nomination for Mixing and Recording for Johnny and The Sprites and won the 2008 Daytime Emmy for Song of The Year, for "Chemistry" from One Life to Live. Sherman won the 2008 Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for In the Heights and the 2008 Grammy Award as the co-producer of the In The Heights Original Broadway Cast Album.
