Before John Patrick Shanley had Cher slap Nicholas Cage in Moonstruck he brought two lonely souls to a dingy, Bronx bar for a game of violent foreplay and self-forgiveness. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Shanley's Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, YOLO! Productions brings you to that bar and allows you to be a fly on the wall. From director Michelle Tattenbaum (Nobody Loves You - Second Stage) Nuyorican Poets Cafe will allow audience members to grab a drink with Danny and Roberta and experience this ground breaking play up closer and more personal than ever before.
Danny and the Deep Blue Sea finds its title character, Danny-a trucker known as "The Beast", and Roberta-a divorced mother of a teenage son who lives with her parents, striking up a haltingly bitter conversation about the demons that unite and divide them. As their reserve begins to fade, they find an exorcism and forgiveness that, while painful, offers the hope of a future touched.
Danny and the Deep Blue Sea runs today, October 7-10, 20, 22-24 at 7:00 p.m at Nuyorican Poets Cafe, New York, NY. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at http://bit.ly/1AFaEhZ. Nuyorican Poets Cafe is located at 236 E 3rd Street (b/t Avenue B and Avenue C; F train, M14A, M15).
