Poor Boys' Chorus, a new play written by Portland-based playwright Brian Kettler, is making its WORLD PREMIERE as part of Broadway Bound Theatre Festival's inaugural season in New York City!

A daring trick by a mysterious illusionist at the summer carnival inspires a rich girl to convince an orphan boy to break all of the town's rules. Plans are hatched, promises are broken, and innocent mistakes produce tragic consequences. Poor Boys' Chorus re-imagines the Greek chorus as a of trio orphans who use rhythm, light, and little bit of magic to tell a tale so tragically romantic it'll take your breath away. Literally.

Poor Boys' Chorus will be directed by Sean Tecson and features Zoe Abuyuan, Enrique Cavazos, Robert Di Donato, Jose Gamo, Rachel Larsen, Christopher Sanders, Rodolfo Soto, and Spencer Wolfe.

Brian Kettler (Playwright) is a recent graduate from the MFA Playwriting program at University of Texas-Austin, where he studied under Steven Dietz, Kirk Lynn and Liz Engelman. He received his BA in Drama from Kenyon College and is a graduate of the National Theater Institute at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. His full-length plays, Poor Boys' Chorus and Lyla School were produced at UT-Austin. His short play, Clown Room, was selected for the 2014 Theater Masters National MFA Playwrights festival, with productions in Aspen and New York City. Additional full-length plays include In School Suspension and Personal, both of which were featured in the JAW: Made in Oregon festival at Portland Center Stage. He was the recipient of the 2012 Oregon Literary Fellowship in Drama. This year, Brian was commissioned by Orphic Theater Company to adapt the Euripides' play, Iphigenia Among the Taurians. His adaptation, Iphigenia 3.0 was presented at the 2017 Fertile Ground Festival in Portland, OR.

Poor Boys' Chorus will be performed at the 14th Street Y Theater (344 E 14th St, New York, NY 10003) on Tuesday, August 15 at 4PM (talk-back follows performance); Friday, August 18 at 7:30PM; and Sunday, August 20 at 3PM.
