World Premiere of David Grimm's TALES FROM RED VIENNA Set for MTC's 2013-14 Season, Begin. Feb. 26, 2014

The world premiere of David Grimm's Tales from Red Vienna has been added to Manhattan Theatre Club's 2013-2014 theatrical season, it was announced today by Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director), Barry Grove (Executive Producer), and Mandy Greenfield (Artistic Producer). Kate Whoriskey (Ruined at MTC) will direct the production, set to begin previews on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 with an official opening night scheduled for Tuesday, March 18 at MTC at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street).

Heléna lost her husband in World War I, and with him, her financial security. Struggling to maintain her way of life, she becomes part of an illicit underworld. Heléna manages to separate her secret life from her public persona - that is until she crosses paths with a man who has the power to expose and ruin her.

Set as an enormous political tide is turning throughout Europe, David Grimm's witty and beautifully poetic new work explores the effects of war on women, the circumstances that control their lives and the dreams that set them free.

TALES FROM RED VIENNA is presented as part of MTC's 2013-2014 season, joining the previously announced world premiere productions of THE SNOW GEESE by Sharr White, directed by Daniel Sullivan starring Mary-Louise Parker; THE COMMONS OF PENSACOLA by Amanda Peet, directed by Lynne Meadow starring Blythe Danner and Sarah Jessica Parker; and WHEN WE WERE YOUNG AND UNAFRAID by Sarah Treem, directed by Pam MacKinnon, starring Cherry Jones. Additional productions for the 2013-2014 season will be announced shortly.

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Lynne Meadow and Executive Producer Barry Grove, MTC has become one of the country's most prominent and prestigious theatre companies. Over the past three decades, MTC productions have earned a total of 19 Tony Awards and six Pulitzer Prizes, an accomplishment unparalleled by a New York theatrical institution. MTC has a Broadway home at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street) and an Off-Broadway theatre at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55thStreet). Since January 2011, Mandy Greenfield (Artistic Producer) has taken the lead in programming and execution at MTC's Off-Broadway home.
