BroadwayWorld is bringing you Words From the Wings, a new series of interviews that take fans behind the scenes of some of their favorite Broadway stars' backstage routines!
Today we're chatting with Addie Manthey, who is currently appearing in Days of Wine and Roses, understudying the role of Lila. Addie told us all about her backstage routines, favorite moments, and more!
Check out her answers, along with photos taken by BroadwayWorld's Jennifer Broski, below!
What’s the first thing you do when you arrive to the theatre?
I usually walk through the door, sign in, and go downstairs to my dressing room. Then I play games with my friends. My favorite game right now is Scattergories!
What’s the last thing you do before you go on stage?
I gulp down my water and make some funny squeaky noises to make sure I don't have any scratches in my throat. I usually feel really excited and let it all out on stage.
What’s your must-have backstage snack?
I always like to have a Nutella B-ready with me. If you don't know what that is, it's a hard biscuit shaped like a little loaf of bread with Nutella in it. It's yummy!
Pre-show ritual that others may think is weird?
I don't have any rituals, but usually I hang out with my guardian, Anna. She's outstanding and we always have fun.
What are five must-haves in your dressing room?
Snacks, a puzzle, my friends, diamond painting, and water! I'm always thirsty and hungry for snacks.
What’s your favorite moment from the show to watch from the wings?
My favorite moment is watching Kelli O'Hara sing "Forgiveness". She has such a pretty voice and it's a special time for her character to spill out all her feelings.
What has been your favorite backstage moment in your time with this show so far?
Every show Brian d'Arcy James' character makes a PB&J sandwich, and I get half of it once the scene ends. I eat it and grade how well Chef Brian made the sandwich and announce the result on the stage managers' headsets. I also really like making up silly dances backstage with Tabitha Lawing during "Are You Blue".
