Playwrights Unit resumes Tuesday, January 19 at 6:00pm

Woodstock Fringe Playwrights Unit seeks actors and playwrights to participate in an on-going playwriting workshop. Especially needed are younger actors (40 and under). The Playwrights Unit, now in its 6th year, meets in two sessions, one in the autumn, the other in Winter/Spring. The 2010 Winter/Spring session begins next Tuesday, January 19th. Meetings are held at the Community Room at Westbeth in New York City. The Playwrights Unit is informed by a core value of Woodstock Fringe-the belief that the act of creation is an act of courage. Every other week an extraordinary group of playwrights, composers, lyricists, book writers and actors gather to share and develop new work. The culture of the Playwrights Unit is one of community, nourishment, honor, mutual respect, and professionalism. This workshop is best suited to self-guided professionals in pursuit of excellence who desire creative connection, collaboration with peers and share excitement and joy in the creative process.

At Playwrights Unit meetings playwrights distribute scenes from works-in-progress that are read by professional actors. Following each reading, a dramatist may (or may not) invite colleagues to comment on the work in a structured critique designed to serve the needs of the dramatist and support each dramatist's individual creative process.

For more information about the workshop please call Wallace Norman, Producing Artistic Director of Woodstock Fringe, at 845-810-0123 and visit our website at woodstockfringe.org
