You Are Here Productions has announced the first annual WonderLand One-Act Festival, beginning Thursday, May 24 through Saturday, June 9 at the Studio Theatre on Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). 60 one-act plays have been selected for the festival, out of hundreds of submissions from all over the world, and featured playwrights include Andrew Biss, Jack Dyville, Shirl Hendryx, Irwin Nayman, Greg LoProto, Csaba Teglas, Jessamyn Fiore, Ken Kaissar, Elizabeth Orndorff, Nick Mwaluko, Bennett Windheim, and more.
Press releases state, "The WonderLand One-Act Festival will feature four rounds of eliminations, determined by a committee of theatre industry professionals (producers, agents, managers). The initial 60 plays will be presented in the Roller Coaster round from May 24 through June 4. 20 plays will be selected to go on to the Ferris Wheel round June 5 and 6, and only ten of these will move on to the next level, the Merry Go Round on June 7. The final three will be featured in the Free Fall round on June 8. There will be a special awards ceremony Saturday evening, June 9, where one play will win the top honor of Best Production and that playwright will receive a $1,000 grand prize."
The Studio Theatre will be given a carnival atmosphere for the Festival, featuring games, raffles and other surprises. Tickets are $18 for all presentations, which will feature three or four one-act plays, and are available through
