Women's Project to Offer transFigures Talkbacks, Etc.

Screenings, talkbacks and panel discussions will be offered in conjunction with The Women's Project's transFigures, running April 21st through May 5th at the Julia Miles Theater.  Admission is free with the purchase of a transFigures ticket. 

The line-up of events follows:

Jesus Camp screening and talkback, 4/21 AT 5PM

"A growing number of Evangelical Christians believe there is a revival underway in America that requires Christian youth to assume leadership roles in advocating the causes of their religious movement. This Academy Award nominated film follows a group of young children to Pastor Becky Fisher's 'Kids on Fire Summer Camp,' where kids are taught to become dedicated Christian soldiers in God's army and are schooled in how to take back America for Christ. The film is a first-ever look into an intense training ground that recruits born-again Christian children to become an active part of America's political future," state press notes. The screening is followed by a talkback with the filmmakers, Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady.

Pinchbottom Burleque Presents Blasphemy!, 4/28 AT 11PM

The Bible commands 'Thou Shalt Be Drunken, and Shalt Make Thyself Naked' (Lamentations 4:21), but which faith truly embraces this dictum? Only one: Pinchbottom's Church of the Almighty Posterior, led by Pastor Nasty Canasta and Reverend Jonny Porkpie. Join them for Blasphemy!, an old time tent revival and burlesque show featuring sermons by  Jo Boobs, Julie Atlas Muz and Father McTigger - all guaranteed "holier than thou!" Thrill to burlesque recreations of key scenes from the bible, including: the annunciation, the crucifixion, and the resurrection! It's sure to raise your spirit... and other things as well."

Jerusalem Syndrome Screening and Talkback , 5/5 AT 5PM

transFigures, a new work for Women's Project, conceived and directed by Lear deBessonet, and inspired by the Jerusalem Syndrome (the well-documented psychosis that causes ordinary tourists to channel Biblical figures, create togas out of hotel bed-sheets, and parade through the Holy City as Moses, Mary Magdalene, Jesus, and other religious icons) opens April 16th for a run through May 6th at the Julia Miles Theater.
