On Wednesday, March 8th, UltraViolet, a leading women's advocacy group, will join with women staging demonstrations in six cities nationwide as part of the #DayWithoutAWoman general strike.

UltraViolet stands in solidarity with women taking part in the #DayWithoutAWoman actions, and supports the fight for economic justice, equity and the human rights of women and gender-oppressed peoples. During the strike, thousands of women are expected to take the day off from paid or unpaid labor, avoid shopping and wear red in solidarity with the national demonstrations.

As part of UltraViolet's support, the group has organized light brigades and commissioned billboards and building projectionsin Washington DC, Chicago, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, and Oakland-including a mobile billboard that will drive around the White House in defiance of Donald Trump and display the names of people standing with the strike.

  • PHILADELPHIA, PA -- a large illuminated banner reading "WOMEN STRIKE" will greet strikers and ralliers along the march route at Thomas Paine Plaza at 6:00pm ET.

  • OAKLAND, CA -- a large illuminated banner reading "WOMEN STRIKE" will greet strikers and ralliers along the march route at 14th and Broadway at 5:00pm PT.

  • NEW YORK, NY -- a projection on skyscrapers above the strikers and ralliers will read "WOMEN STRIKE" and "STRIKE AGAINST SEXISM." The projection will happen along the march route and take place after 6:00pm ET.

"Women across the country are striking to show what a day without women looks like, highlighting the enormous contributions that women of all backgrounds make to our society - all while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, including vulnerability to discrimination and sexual harassment," explained Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of UltraViolet. "We stand with women striking, for those fighting to end violence against women and for those fighting to protect the reproductive rights of all. Together, we stand against the sexual predator in the White House and his hateful policies."
