Halloween comes a day early to The New Victory Theater (209 West 42nd Street), as The Night Kitchen Radio Theater performs the spooky new show The Witch's Child on Tuesday, October 30 at 6:30PM.
This one-night-only event is the first in a series of radio plays to be recorded this season before a live audience at the New Vic and later broadcast over the XM satellite network. Tickets to this hour-long performance are only $5 each, and a few lucky audience members will receive free copies of the book The Witch's Child by award-winning children's book author Arthur Yorinks.
Yorinks is also the founder and director of The Night Kitchen Radio Theater, which has established itself as the premier home of audio theater for family audiences. In the last two years alone, they have created over two dozen memorable adaptations of literature for all ages. The talented cast of The Witch's Child is scheduled to include Broadway and Off-Broadway actors Alice Playten, Richard Muenz and Steven Rattazzi and other guest actors.
"The intriguing story concerns a witch who creates a child from straw and names her Rosalie. But when the witch tries to coax the straw girl into life, she is thwarted at every turn, until finally she abandons her inanimate creation. Then one day while the witch is away, a young girl wanders into the witch's house. She befriends Rosalie, but she tarries too long. The witch is coming home! Who will save this young girl?" describe press materials.
Later in the season, The Night Kitchen Radio Theater series will continue at the New Victory with 60-minute, modern versions of Hansel & Gretel (on February 12), Peter Pan (on April 22) and Sherlock Holmes and the Golden Tooth (on June 3). Tickets for all four The Night Kitchen Radio Theater shows are just $5 each and are best enjoyed by those ages 7 to adult.
