2B and Wrash Theatre Company
will present Winter, a play by A.J.
Raath based on Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. The show will run at The Looking Glass Theatre (located
at 422 West 57th Street between 9th and 10th Avenue) from February 4th through February 26th.
"Winter mixes key scenes from Shakespeare's late
romance The Winter's Tale with a contemporary love story. In Shakespeare's
play King Leontes accuses Queen Hermione of adultery and despite no evidence to
support this, he sends his family, his kingdom and himself into a downward
spiral into tragedy. In the modern story, Leonard and Helen fall in love
despite his unstable behavior. Panicked after Helen becomes pregnant,
Leonard jilts her, ends their relationship and goes on a drinking binge.
He visits an old friend to inquire about his baby to find that the baby is a
mystery – did the baby even really exist? Where redemption in
Shakespeare's romance is a reality, in its contemporary counterpart, redemption
may be just a fantasy," state press notes.
W. Allen Wrede will direct a cast that includes Michael
Beaman, Sarah Brynne, Andrew Carter, Anthony Ciccotelli, R.J. Foster, Felicia
Graybeal, Topping Haggerty, Suzanne Hall, Jeffrey Kitrosser, Stephanie Roman and
Daniela Tedesco.
