Wildflowers Productions and Eye of a Fly Productions presents FABULOSO, written by Olivier Award nominated playwright John Kolvenbach - whose works have previously been performed in London's West End as well as many different countries all over the world.
Kolvenbach wrote Fabuloso as a metaphor for having children: "I had just had the second of two children, and I wanted to write about what it was like - what it was literally like - to have two agents of chaos in your house. But what if instead of being children they were another couple who just moved in and stayed? If you can't get rid of them, then what do you do?"
Broadway veteran Kyle Fabel has directed Kolvenbach's work before: "John is writing the best American comedies today. When I read them, I laugh out loud. I am honored to direct his plays, and to call him my friend as well as one of my favorite playwrights. At it's core, Fabuloso contains oozing, overflowing vats of love - unconditional and untraditional."
"It is such an honor be able to bring Fabuloso to a New York stage. As soon as I read the play I fell in love with all the characters and their relationships to one another. It may seem bizarre and absurd but at the same time it's so utterly honest and pure." says Julia Bostrom, co-artistic director of Wildflowers Productions who also stars as Kate. "It is a very special feeling to do such a loving comedy about unconventional family with my very own 'accidental family' here in New York. I think that's the beauty of theatre and art, it brings people together." she continues.
Jack Gilliat, owner of Eye of a Fly Productions, just finished a run of 'Echoes of Ebola' at Playwrights Horizons next door. "Having just come out of a political drama about the pharmaceutical industry, it's wonderful to bring a new comedy to 42nd street." he says. Gilliat also stars as Arthur: "Arthur is an orphan with love deep in his heart. It's so wonderful to play a character who loves his world and the people in it unconditionally. To me that's what art is for in some ways - to teach people how to love."
ABOUT THE PLAY
Kate and Teddy are living a mundane life in a mundane marriage. When Arthur, a piece of Teddy's past, appears on their doorstep with his fiancé, Samantha, their life is transformed into something fabuloso. Arthur and Samantha move in with bags of farcical adventures in hand and inject new energy into Kate and Teddy's marriage in the least expected ways.
What can you do when uninvited guests move in? When you find yourself suffocated by someone's violently loving adoration? Blissfully chaotic and heartfelt, Fabuloso is a show about the family you didn't know you had, and about choosing to stay together.
FABULOSO runs at Theatre Row, 410 W 42nd Street July 8th, 9th & 10th
