Open calls will be held in Chicago for the Broadway, Chicago, Los Angeles and First National Companies of the smash hit musical Wicked.

Producers are "seeking males and females, 18 – 40s, all ethnicities, who are fantastic singers with a wide vocal range for principal and ensemble roles in all of the North American productions of Wicked," according to press notes.

Auditions will be held Sunday, March 25, 2007, 1:00pm until 5:00pm.  (Sign-in begins at 12:30pm and will end promptly at 4:00pm; if you'd like to be seen, please do not arrive later than 4:00pm).  They will take place at Lou Conte Dance Studio (1147 West Jackson Boulevard, corner of Jackson and Racine) in Chicago, IL.

Prepare 16 bars of a contemporary musical theater song showing range.  Bring sheet music for your song; a piano accompanist will be provided. Bring a photo/resume stapled together.

Wicked has been sold out at virtually every performance on Broadway, since having its official opening at the Gershwin Theatre on October 30, 2003.  Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, the show has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman.  Directed by Joe Mantello, with musical staging by Wayne Cilento, Wicked is also currently being presented on Broadway, on a National Tour, and in a separate, open-ended engagement at Chicago's Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre.  The London production opened on September 27 and is currently playing to capacity crowds at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.

"Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz.  One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood.  The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular.  Wicked tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch," state notes.
