Academy Award-winner Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost) will be the special guest at the "Monday Nights with Oscar" (MNWO) screening of 1985 Best Picture nominee The Color Purple on Monday, April 16, 7PM, at the Academy Theater in New York City. Goldberg received and Academy Award nomination for her starring role in the Steven Spielberg-directed film, and will partake in a post-screening discussion.

Adapted from Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a young woman searching for her inner strength early in the 20th century, The Color Purple co-starred Danny Glover, Margaret Avery, and Oprah Winfrey, and received 11 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay (Menno Myers), Best Actress (Goldberg), Best Supporting Actress (Avery, Winfrey), Best Original Song ("Miss Celie's Blues (Sister), by Quincy Jones, Rod Temperton, and Lionel Richie) and Best Costume Design (Aggie Guerard Rodgers). The Color Purple was recently made into a Broadway show, and received an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for "Outstanding Broadway Musical."
