The Staten Island Zoo is pleased to announce that our guests have voted to name the white male reindeer that has been residing at the Zoo over the last few weeks - LIGHTNING.

Winning the naming contest that the Zoo has sponsored over the past few weeks, LIGHTNING was the most popular name selected by those who cast their ballots while visiting our reindeer friends at the Zoo.

LIGHTNING is currently training to officially be a permanent member of Santa's fleet. In fact, SI Chuck has been sighted on the grounds of the Zoo giving LIGHTNING some helpful weather tips that could come in handing when travelling through a variety of climates in one night.

In addition to LIGHTNING, The Zoo has been a temporary home as of late for a few other seasonal guests including Mitzi, named after Rudolph's mom, and Clarice, Rudolph's girlfriend. Be sure to say hello before they leave the first week of January and head back to the North Pole.

The Staten Island Zoo is also pleased to announce that any visitor (age 14 and under) who comes to the Zoo starting tomorrow, Christmas Eve, through January 2nd, will receive a free holiday coloring book and crayons (until supplies last) compliments of the Zoo and Northfield Savings Foundation. Bear in mind, however, that the Zoo is closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
