After dazzling in the SINGIN' IN THE RAIN number as part of Harvey Weinstein's NEW YORK SPRING SPECTACULAR at Radio City last year, DANCING WITH THE STARS Emmy winner Derek Hough could soon be dancing through the rain-soaked streets of Broadway.
As previously announced, Théâtre du Châtelet and Weinstein Live Entertainment are in the process of bringing the Parisian production of SINGIN' IN THE RAIN to the Great White Way and around the world.
Hough reportedly revealed in a Q&A last summer that Weinstein had asked him to star in the Broadway musical. Now, the actor just posted on Facebook that he is "heading to Paris to see a play." We can only assume he is referring to SINGIN' IN THE RAIN! BroadwayWorld has received no official word on the rumor, but we'll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more.
This wouldn't be Hough's first experience with Broadway; the dancer appeared in BURN THE FLOOR in 2010. Hough also made his West End debut in 2006 in FOOTLOOSE.
SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, the new production of the Théâtre du Châtelet, based on the eponymous film in 1952, which was given 15 sold out performances in March 2015, is back on stage at the Châtelet for 50 performances, from November 27, 2015 to January 15, 2016. The show is directed by Robert Carsen - who had previously directed the Chatelet CANDIDE by Bernstein (2006) and MY FAIR LADY (2010 and 2013) - with choreography by Stephen Mear (MARY POPPINS) and costumes designed by Anthony Powell (SUNSET BOULEVARD), a Broadway legend.
Last year, Weinstein Live Entertainment, led by Harvey Weinstein, co-founder and president of the Weinstein Company, presented on Broadway and in New York, FINDING NEVERLAND and the NEW YORK SPRING SPECTACULAR with The Rockettes. Weinstein's past productions include MAMMA MIA!, THE PRODUCERS, BILLY ELLIOT: THE MUSICAL, THE COLOR PURPLE, and AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY.
