What Will the Neighbors Say? is thrilled to announce that it has been selected for the 3B Development Series at the IRT Theatre in New York. The WWTNS? team is excited to work with Artistic Director Kori Rushton during the residency in August 2017. IRT , a grassroots theatre laboratory, is located at 154 Christopher Street, 3B, NY .
This residency marks the end of a year in which WWTNS? has established itself as a vibrant young company in New York and abroad. Throughtout, Co-Artistic Directors Sam Hood Adrain , James Clements , Jorge Morales Picó and Ana Cristina Schuler have pursued their mission to "provoke questions through untold stories." The company has staged productions of WWI drama Sources of Light Other Than the Sun, Romanov epic Four Sisters, and media thriller In Her Own Words: The Diana Tapes. WWTNS? has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe and Thespis Festivals, as well as various venues on the East Coast, and will tour The Diana Tapes to Toronto this fall.
WWTNS? has been featured in the Evening Times, the Herald, the Providence Journal, the Daily Mail, STV, BBC Radio, and BroadwayWorld, and was shortlisted for the Holden Street Theatre Award. WWTNS? launched their educational program with the Untitled Shape Show, an original musical for young audiences, during a residency in Rhode Island. The company also inaugurated their community programming, the Neighborhood Story Project, at Industry City Distillery in Brooklyn.
At IRT , the company will open the New York workshop of The Diana Tapes, and launch the second staging of the Untitled Shape Show, as well as hosting a symposium, People as People, discussing the representation of bodies on stage. WWTNS? will also present fellow emerging theatre company, Experimental Bitch Presents (EBP) for a weekly mini-residency, in addition to supporting new creators and performers through their artistic internship program.
IRT Theater is a grassroots laboratory for independent theater and performance in New York City, providing space and support to a new generation of artists. Some of the artists we have supported include Young Jean Lee, Reggie Watts, & Mike Daisey.
This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Office of Councilmember Corey Johnson and The Nancy Quinn Fund, a project of the Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York(A.R.T./New York). www.irttheater.org
