Need a good laugh? Head to the Upper West Side (that's not the joke). The neighborhood is about to become a comedy haven as West Side Comedy Club (201 West 75th Street) is set to open on October 6th. Located just around the corner from the Beacon Theatre, the Comedy Club is actually just below the beach-chic restaurant, Playa Betty's.
West Side Comedy Club (WSCC) is the latest venture from the team behind Playa Betty's and Reunion Surf Bar: Tom Wilson, Eugene Ashe and Eugene's wife Nina Ashe (Nina will also perform at WSCC). West Side Comedy Club is a true passion project for the group, as Eugene and Nina fell in love with each other and comedy while working at the notorious Comedy Club, Caroline's. Tom, Eugene and Nina are combining their years of experience working in the city's most iconic Comedy Clubs (Caroline's, Gotham Comedy Club) along with a roster of their own successful restaurants to create an unparalleled experience at WSCC.
Enter through Stage Door A (located in Playa Betty's) and head downstairs into a 100-seat theater. The intimate space offers a comfortable feel with the team's signature retro vibes. Wood-paneled walls and swivel barstools bring back memories of your childhood basement (a la That 70's Show). There's not a bad seat in the place, as communal tables of six and ten surround the red velvet-draped stage. Hang loose and enjoy youthful takes on classic cocktails, such as the Gene and Tommy (a frosted Gin and Tonic) while grabbing a bite to eat during sets. The upstairs' kitchen at Playa Betty's serves up Guacamole 2.0, Austin-style Queso, loaded "Tot" Chos and the French fry filled Hang 10 Burrito.
Sets will begin at 8:00 pm on Sunday through Thursday; and 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm on Friday and Saturday. There is a two-drink minimum; cover charges vary.
