West End star Julie Atherton (Avenue Q, Notes from New York, Fame, Mamma Mia!) will launch her eagerly anticipated second album No Space for Air with her first ever solo engagement at London's exclusive Delfont Room for one night only on Sunday 6 June 2010.
Julie Atherton: No Space for Air will showcase songs from the new album in a uniquely intimate setting, offering fans the first opportunity to hear this lauded leading lady cast her genre-defying interpretations on a range of classic tracks and brand new songs penned specially for her voice. The album will be available for the first time on the night.
Fusing an innate theatrical sensibility with a ravishingly raw, angst rock vibe, No Space for Air is a unique and groundbreaking album for the Spring Awakening and
Lady Gaga generation. Julie's musical influences range from
Alanis Morissette and Skunk Anansie to legendary musical theatre composer
Stephen Sondheim, leading to a wonderfully eclectic and personal selection of material.
Julie Atherton is one of the West End's most prolific and successful young musical theatre stars, having played the lead roles of Sophie in the smash hit musical Mamma Mia!, Serena in the everlasting Fame and Cathy in
Jason Robert Brown's The Last 5 Years. Best known for originating the roles of
Kate Monster and
Lucy The Slut in the popular puppet musical Avenue Q, she is also an experienced concert artist, having headlined numerous musical engagements at venues as diverse as the
Donmar Warehouse and the Royal
Albert Hall.
Julie's debut album A Girl of Few Words is one of bestselling musical theatre releases of recent years, and the most downloaded album recorded by any West End musical theatre star. No Space for Air builds on her already established reputation as a recording artist. Her other recording credits include the original cast recordings of A Spoonful of Stiles & Drewe, Christmas in New York and Just So.
Julie Atherton: No Space for Air is produced by Neil Eckersley and
