As we're gearing up for a slew of celebrations for the site's 10th Anniversary (watch this space for some more VERY exciting news), we decided earlier this year, that it was time for a long-needed makeover to the design.
Since the site launched, in May of 2003, the design has certainly 'evolved', but we decided that BroadwayWorld.com was overdue to move from 'evolution, to revolution'. We've studied months of data, analytics, heat maps, traffic reports and usability studies to identify what was being used the most, what was great content but not easily accessible, and what overall priorities and representation we wanted for ourselves as a web site.
The ultimate goal is to serve, inform and respect our readers and we owe you an easy to navigate site, the ability to get what you want -- and fast (without thousands of extra clicks) and an overall great experience.
At the end of the day, it came down to content - great, great content. BroadwayWorld.com's unmatched team of writers, editors and contributors around the world produce several hundred high quality stories a day including the best news, photos, videos, reviews anywhere about theatre. All of this editorial content is augmented by the largest theatre databases in the world for performers, tickets, shows, regional productions, educational productions, school resources, audition information, discount offers, travel tips and industry data. And, of course, we also have the liveliest and most passionate message board community on the planet which has always been a popular cornerstone of the site.
That brings us to today's high-def redesign. We've made everything that you want to see faster, larger, including beautiful high-def retina friendly images, easier to find and read content, a cleaner design that's less overwhelming, easier to find discounts and video content, consistent navigation, and many other visual improvements (more white space - aaah!).
Our new responsive homepage will also adapt when viewed from your tablet or mobile phone, to better serve Broadway fans and readers on the go. Go on, check it out...I'll hold.
The homepage now provides easier access to our top-notch content for Off-Broadway and London's West End, as well as our InDepth Interview content, our many exclusive BWW TV offerings, and coverage from around the globe. Icons have been enlarged, sections have been cleanly and clearly created, and the page has been made more interactive to allow for easier switching between, for example, 'Latest' and 'Most Popular' news.
Most importantly, it will now be even easier to launch and add some of the many new editorial, database and interactive features that we've been cooking up in our digital kitchen.
I hope you enjoy our new look as much as we do here, and here's to another great 10 years and ... happy reading!
Rob
