Todd Haimes and the entire Roundabout Theatre Company staff mourn the loss of founding director, Gene Feist, who passed away Monday at the Lillian Booth Actor's Home in New Jersey.
Gene Feist, circa 2013.
Gene and his wife Kathe (aka Elizabeth Owens) started Roundabout Theatre in 1965, determined to create a company where both could practice their craft (he as playwright and director; she as actress).
Truly a man of the theatre, Gene could recall memorable performances and performers spanning over 60 years, always with his unique brand of humor and panache.

Gene stepped down as artistic director in 1992, but remained close to the company until the end of his life, truly reveling in the success of the little basement theatre company that surpassed his wildest imaginings. Gene's legacy lives on in Roundabout Theatre Company -- he will be missed.
