Because of the overwhelming response to our report on Liza Minnelli's first concert tribute to her godmother Kay Thompson, we're happy to bring you some new dates on their schedule.
Minnelli will play the following engagements:
Kay Thompson is perhaps most famous to movie musical fans for having appeared as a flamboyant fashion editrix in Funny Face, starring Audrey Hepburn. However, she was even more acclaimed for her work behind the scenes in Hollywood. Thompson was an in-demand musical and vocal arranger who worked with stars such as Judy Garland (Minnelli's mother). She later created the Eloise books. Thompson and Minnelli were friends until the end of Thompson's life, when she died on July 2, 1998.
Minnelli's ensemble includes Jim Caruso, Cortes Alexander, Johnny Rodgers and Clarke Thorell.
In addition to her Emmy for "Liza with a Z," Minnelli has won three Tony Awards, an Oscar, and two Golden Globes. She won a Theatre World Award for Best Foot Forward, Tony Awards for Flora, the Red Menace and The Act, and a Special Tony Award in 1974. She was nominated for an Oscar for The Sterile Cuckoo, and won the Oscar and the Golden Globe Award for the film version of Cabaret, directed by Bob Fosse. The daughter of Judy Garland, her other Broadway credits include The Rink, Chicago and Victor/Victoria, and she has also been seen on film in New York, New York, Arthur and others.
