The Gershwins s'wonderful musical My One and Only tap dances its way onto the Wagner College Theatre Mainstage from February 21-March 3, 2019, under the direction of Ann Neiman (WCT's 42nd Street and Into the Woods), with choreography by John Scacchetti (Broadway's 42nd Street and Gypsy revivals) and music direction by David Sisco (WCT's Hair and La Cage aux Folles).
My One and Only features a timeless score with music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, and book by Peter Stone and Timothy S. Mayer.
In 1927, aviator Billy Buck Chandler falls for English swimmer Edythe Herbert, yearns to become the first American to make a nonstop TransAtlantic flight to Paris, and sings and dances to classic George and Ira Gershwin tunes.
In addition to the title tune, the score includes "'S Wonderful," "Funny Face," "I Can't Be Bothered Now," "He Loves and She Loves," "Strike Up the Band," "Nice Work If You Can Get It" and "Kickin' the Clouds Away."
My One and Only features Michael Motkowski as Captain Billy Buck Chandler, Alexis Eldredge as Edythe Herbert, Robert V. Fischetti as Rt. Rev. J.D. Montgomery, Kyra Lee as Ms. Magix, Angie Cocuzza as Mickey, Albert Nelthrop as Prince Nicolai Erraclyovitch Tchatchavadze. The Ensemble features Liam Abate, Kevin Atwater, Remy Barson, Emily Cobb, Erin Damers, Kayla Fegeley, Kellen Gaughan, Jonah Hale, Kelly Hedden, Madeline Kendall, Gary Lumpkin, Anne Elizabeth Miele, Michelle Morris, Benjamin Murasso, Drew Patti, Conner Wynn.
The design team includes Phill Hickox (scenic design); Jimm Holiday (costume design); Vicki Neal (lighting design); Richard Kroth (sound design), Joanna Catalano (hair/makeup/wig design), Brian T. Sharron (technical direction, Sarah Aguila (assistant hair/makeup designer), Madi Joseph (prop master), Lex Subbotin (assistant lighting designer), Lydia Rumowicz (assistant scenic designer), Conchetta Aronowitz (assistant sound designer), Cameron Russell (assistant stage manager), Vanessa Rebeil is production stage manager.
Following a tumultuous tryout in Boston, My One and Only opened to rave reviews on May 1, 1983 at Broadway's St. James Theatre. Directed and choreographed by Thommie Walsh and Tommy Tune, the production starred Tune and Twiggy, running 767 performances. In a season dominated by CATS, My One and Only took home Tony Awards for Best Actor, Best Featured Actor in a Musical and Best Choreography (shared by Tune and Walsh).
Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 8pm, with matinees Saturday and Sunday at 2pm.
