WICKED's Michele Lee Tells How Being In A Broadway Flop Led To A Big Break

It's been 42 years since Michele Lee was starring in a Broadway musical. Back then she was bringing the house down as Gittel Mosca, the gutsy, determined and exceedingly unlucky in love leading lady of SEESAW.

She's looking far more glamourous in her new gig as Wicked's Madame Morrible.

In a recent interview posted on NorthJersey.com, Lee recalled how being cast in a well-timed Broadway flop led to her big break.

Lee got great notices playing the romantic lead opposite Cesare Siepi in BRAVO, GIOVANNI, but the musical's short run ended just as the smash hit HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING needed to replace its Rosemary, Bonnie Scott, who was pregnant. Lee not only got the part, she got to play Rosemary in the musical's movie version.

"'I was in love with Bobby Morse,' Lee said. 'He was so wonderful to me. I would get notes from him, teaching me about timing, explaining how I should wait before delivering a line - one-thousand-one, one-thousand-two - so I'd get a bigger laugh. It was very easy to play opposite him and look at him with love.'"
