Following BroadwayWorld's Student Center Classroom two-part series "Behind the Scenes at Wicked" with Marybeth Abel, the production stage manager wrote to BWW to tell us that it had drawn "quite the following of enthusiastic kids". In response, Abel and her colleague at Wicked Christy Ney will now be offering a Stage Management One Day Intensive on August 4th, 2013.

If you are a high school student interested in stage management and have asked yourself what you need to know to be a stage manager, considered whether you want to study the discipline in college, or wondered how to network and pursue a career the field, then learning the basics at this workshop can help.
Spend the day in NYC, the theatre capital of the world, with two professional Broadway stage managers and learn first-hand what it takes to put on a Broadway show from pre-production through strike. Learn about networking and resume writing. Walk away with an energized understanding about the production side of theatre. Gain insight as to whether stage management is right for you.
There is a guaranteed small class size of 15 students, which results in more one-on-one time for each student and enhanced opportunities for group work and individualize tasks.

Mission Statement: It is our goal to share our love of theatre and Stage Management with our students. We wish to enrich their lives and studies by introducing them to the specialized and often times unrecognized work of the Stage Manager. It is our hope to inspire the next generation of Stage Managers.
Tuition is a $150.00 non-refundable fee. Full payment must accompany application. Tuition and application are due by July 3, 2013.

THE INSTRUCTORS:
Marybeth Abel (Production Stage Manager) has been professionally and successfully employed for 30 years. Highlights of her Broadway career include Wicked, Cyrano De Bergerac, Sweet Charity, La Cage Aux Folles, Sly Fox, Fosse, Five Guys Named Moe. She held the role of Production Supervisor for 12 years of all North American companies, including the original Broadway Company, of Les Miserables. In addition to her theatrical credits she has produced and stage managed several major live concert and benefit events. She holds an adjunct professorship in the Theatre Arts division at Columbia University- Graduate Stage Management Program, where she shares her passion for helping to develop and guide the next generation of working, thinking and judicious Stage Managers.
Christy Ney (Stage Manager) Christy's love of the arts began with her first dance class at age 3 ½. After a childhood filled with music and dance, she decided to pursue a career backstage as opposed to onstage. She has been privileged to have spent the past 15 years working as a professional Stage Manager. Currently, she is an Assistant Stage Manager on Broadway's Wicked. Other credits include: (Broadway) Marie Christine, Side Man. (National Tour) The Lion King. (Off-Broadway) The World Over, Falsettos, and Floyd Collins. (Regional) 3 seasons at Paper Mill Playhouse and productions for the New Jersey State Opera and New Jersey Ballet. She has been a member of the teaching faculty for the New York Film Academy's Musical Theatre Conservatory Program for the past 3 years and gets great joy out of teaching and tutoring theatre students. In addition, she lectures and teaches workshops on technical theatre and Stage Management for many theatres, colleges and universities.
