Team FUV hits the road again this summer. The staff of New York's Rock and Roots radio station WFUV (90.7 FM/wfuv.org) travels to the Bonnaroo, Solid Sound, and Newport festivals for live audio and video broadcasts and backstage coverage. And to celebrate the summer festival season, WFUV will spotlight artists playing at festivals (including Clearwater, SummerStage, Celebrate Brooklyn, Mad Sq. Music, and others) throughout the day on Thursday, June 13.
First up is the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, which attracts 80,000 campers and music lovers to Manchester, TN from June 13-16. This year's lineup ranges from Paul McCartney and Mumford & Sons to Trombone Shorty and Calexico. As they have in past years, WFUV's Rita Houston and Alisa Ali will co-host The Whole Wide Worldprogram from backstage at Bonnaroo on Friday, June 14 from 7-10 p.m, drawing from their extensive contacts to present interviews with performers. Meanwhile, WFUV's Laura Fedele will be on hand to document the action both onstage and backstage throughout the weekend in an online photo gallery.
The following weekend, June 21-23, Team FUV makes its first trip to Wilco's Solid Sound Festival in Williamstown, MA. A collaboration between the band and Mass MOCA, the festival features performances by Wilco and other artists selected by the band, as well as a comedy cabaret. WFUV's Rita Houston and Carmel Holt will host a live broadcast on Saturday, June 22 from 7 p.m.- 12 midnight, with performances scheduled by Wilco, Neko Case, Foxygen, and Yo La Tengo. WFUV's video crew will also be there to capture backstage interviews and exclusive performances.
Finally, WFUV will partner again this year with NPR Music to broadcast performances from the Newport Folk Festival July 26-28. Tickets sold out almost instantly for Saturday and Sunday, with a lineup including Beck, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, Beth Orton, The Lumineers, and Andrew Bird. Rita Houston and Bob Boilen of NPR Music will anchor the live broadcasts, along with WFUV's Alisa Ali and others, which will air Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 18 from 12-8 p.m., with Friday TBD.
