And a Happy Birthday shout-out to Bette Midler, who turns 70 today!
Midler last starred on Broadway in I'LL EAT YOU LAST: A CHAT WITH SUE MENGERS. Before that, she appeared in PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT, BETTE! DIVINE MADNESS, BETTE MIDLER'S CLAMS ON THE HALF SHELL REVUE, BETTE MIDLER and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. She also took the stage in the recent benefit production of SHORT TALKS ON THE UNIVERSE and has appeared off-Broadway in SALVATION. Midler received a special Tony Award in 1974. Her record debut, THE DIVINE MISS M, earned her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Among her film credits are THE ROSE, for which she earned the Golden Globe for Best Actress, Academy Award nod, and Grammy Award, BEACHES -- for which she received her third Grammy Award, Record of the Year, for the film's title song, "Wind Beneath My Wings" -- FOR THE BOYS (Golden Globe and Oscar nominations), and the cult Halloween favorite HOCUS POCUS, among others. Midler also recently released her 25th album IT'S THE GIRLS and took it on tour across the country.
