Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has acquired North American theatrical, VOD, and DVD rights to the comedy-drama feature ALLSWELL IN NEW YORK. ALLSWELL IN NEW YORK premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it won ‘Best Screenplay in a U.S. Narrative Feature’ in 2022. Freestyle Digital Media is planning a fall 2024 limited theatrical and VOD release.

Co-starring, co-written, and co-produced by Liza Colón-Zayas (who was just nominated for a 2024 Primetime Emmy Award for ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series’ for FX’s THE BEAR), the film also stars Elizabeth Rodriguez (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK), Daphne Rubin-Vega (IN THE HEIGHTS) and Emmy-winner Bobby Cannavale (BOARDWALK EMPIRE), with Felix Solis (THE FORGOTTEN), Max Casella (TULSA KINGS), Michael Rispoli (THE RUM DIARY), Shyrley Rodriguez (THE GET DOWN), MacKenzie Lansing (THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES) and J. Cameron Barnett (POSE) rounding out the cast.

Directed by Ben Snyder, ALLSWELL IN NEW YORK is from a screenplay by Ben Snyder & Elizabeth Rodriguez with story by Liza Colón-Zayas and Daphne Rubin-Vega. The film was produced by Elizabeth Rodriguez, Ben Snyder, Gia Walsh, Ari Issler, Paul Jarrett, and Vince Jolivette.

Inspired by elements of the writers’ lives, ALLSWELL IN NEW YORK is an odyssey of love, loss, and the redemptive power of family involving three Nuyorican relatives who are navigating the daunting life challenges of single motherhood, career, and family while finding humor and solace within the bond of sisterhood.

Giddy with excitement at the prospect of finally becoming a mom, Brooklyn restaurateur Daisy (Elizabeth Rodriguez) eagerly welcomes her young surrogate into her home for the last few weeks of pregnancy, blinded to the huge risk she’s taking--and the secret the troubled young woman is hiding. Meanwhile, sister Ida (Liza Colón-Zayas), busy keeping others on the right track as a counselor at a local clinic, feels the emotional pull of their long-estranged brother, leading to a life-altering discovery. And sister-in-law Serene (Daphne Rubin-Vega), making a living as a vocal coach and reliving past glories, quickly realizes that her daughter is making money in a seriously dangerous manner, sending the former pop star into fight mode to save her only child from the kind of youthful mistakes that she once made.

Freestyle Digital Media’s Head of Digital Film Distribution, Bill Vergos said: “This is a very entertaining film from a talented group of filmmakers, and we are looking forward to bringing the award-winning Allswell in New York to audiences nationwide this fall.”

Director Ben Snyder said: “We just knew we needed to make a movie together. These are friendships that span decades. We would gather in apartments, restaurants, wherever we could find space to tell stories. What emerged was a mashup of inspiration from people and places and lives that touched us; chosen family — which in real life we are. I know it’s the most cliche thing to say, but this is a love letter to our city; I mean show me a realer New Yorker than Elizabeth, Liza, or Daphne — I dare you! We are thrilled to share this with the world.”

Freestyle Digital Media negotiated the deal to acquire ALLSWELL IN NEW YORK through Anthony SanFilippo at Filmopoly.
