Variety is pleased to announce that Jimmy Kimmel has been selected as the 2013 Honoree for the 4th Annual Variety's Power of Comedy event. The celebration will take place on November 16 at The Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles and will be presented by Xbox One. Variety's Power of Comedy gala brings together Hollywood's most talented comedians in order to further The Noreen Fraser Foundation's mission of raising funds for women's cancer research.
This entertaining evening of stand-up and sketch comedic performances will not only celebrate Kimmel, it will shine the spotlight on the incredibly important issue of women's cancer research. The Noreen Fraser Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for groundbreaking women's cancer research and raising awareness of the importance of early detection for the prevention of women's cancers.
Kimmel will be honored with the 2013 Variety's Power of Comedy award for his remarkable contributions to comedy as the host and executive producer of the Emmy Award-winning Jimmy Kimmel Live. Known for creating viral videos that garner millions of views on YouTube, the show recently had another hit when Kimmel unmasked himself as the mastermind behind the "Worst Twerk Fail EVER" video, a viral sensation that pranked the national and local media alike, leading critics to exclaim that "Kimmel won the internet."
After a decade on the air, the show made the move to the coveted 11:35pm time slot and for the complete 2012-13 TV season, delivered its most-watched season ever. In addition to its highly regarded comedy segments, Jimmy Kimmel Live is a destination for music's biggest names- most recently shutting down a quarter mile of Hollywood Boulevard for two huge concerts featuring Sir Paul McCartney and Justin Timberlake.
The event will host six hundred VIP guests, and the night's performances will include stand-up, sketch and musical comedy from some of today's top comedic talents. Previous Power of Comedy honorees include Seth MacFarlane, Amy Poehler and Russell Brand.
"Since its inception, Variety's Power of Comedy event has been extremely successful in uniting our industry's funniest talent in raising much needed funds and awareness for women's cancer research. We're also incredibly excited to be honoring such a beloved and gifted comedian as Jimmy Kimmel, to celebrate our fourth year," said Michelle Sobrino, Publisher, Variety. "It's sure to be a humorous and memorable night, and Jimmy, along with this year's performers, are proof that the power of laughter can go a long way in impacting such worthy causes as The Noreen Fraser Foundation."
"The Noreen Fraser Foundation is thrilled that Variety continues to support its mission to fund groundbreaking women's cancer research with the 4th annual Variety's Power of Comedy event," said Noreen Fraser, Founder and CEO, NFF. "This year's honoree could not be more deserving of the Power of Comedy award - Jimmy Kimmel has brought us years of entertainment and laughter. We look forward to celebrating with him and appreciate his support of our mission."
The event's presenting sponsor, Xbox One, will have a deep integration with the event and will be showcasing the new entertainment system at the event just days prior to its highly-anticipated launch on November 22. Xbox One is the ultimate all-in-one entertainment system built for the 21st century living room - introducing a new world of games, music, live TV, movies, sports, apps and Skype, all personalized to your interests and accessible with the sound of your voice. About The Noreen Fraser Foundation
The mission of the Noreen Fraser Foundation (NFF) is to raise funds for women's cancer research and awareness of the importance of early detection. NFF supports translational cancer research aimed at developing new prevention methods, diagnostic tools and non-toxic therapies to treat women's cancers. Our hope is that until there are cures, women's cancers will become manageable diseases controlled with targeted therapies that protect patients' quality of life. While we focus on several types of cancers as opposed to just one, the research we fund is focused on making a real impact on women's lives quickly. Focused funding and focused research will afford us the best chance to make greater strides and give this generation more than just hope to pass on to the next generation. NFF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
