Among the multitalented names announced for the upcoming British film 'Songs for Marion' are luminaries of both theatre and film: Vanessa Redgrave, Terence Stamp, and Gemma Aterton will lead the movie, reports The Daily Mail.
Songs for Marion is centered around a rock choir, run by Gemma Arterton's character, which the title Marion (Vanessa Redgrave) is a part of. Both characters look to get Marion's husband, played by Terence Stamp, to join the choir.
The film's producer, Ken Marshall, told The Daily Mail that "Choirs have always been a massive part of the British social fabric...Glee made them even more popular."
'Songs for Marion' will include singing from the actors, Marshall confirms. "Both Vanessa and Terence can sing, and each has a big solo spot number," he said, adding that Redgrave will sing a ballad "that will have you crying into your shirt." The music featured in the movie will reportedly come from artists such as Motorhead, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder and Cyndi Lauper.
After the filming, Redgrave will reprise her Broadway role in DRIVING MISS DAISY in London. Redgrave (LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO THE NIGHT) plays Daisy Werthan, an older Southern Jewish woman, joining James Earl Jones (CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, FENCES) as Hoke, the black chauffeur hired to drive her. The play studies the friendship that growns between Daisy and Hoke as the Civil Rights era evolves.
