The lush, rolling hills of Montgomery County, Pa., have always drawn the observation that our local scenery is picture-postcard perfect.
The Valley Forge Convention and Visitors Bureau is now out to prove the point.
The Valley Forge #ForgeUrPostcard Photo Contest invites shutterbugs to capture the scenery, flavor, charm and uniqueness of Montgomery County, upload it to Instagram with the tag #ForgeUrPostcard and vie for a chance to have their entry turned into an actual postcard.
Subject matter is limited only by photogs' imaginations: whether it's something as traditional as the majesty of the National Memorial Arch at Valley Forge National Historical Park or something as offbeat as the outdoor art visible at the Abington Art Center's Sculpture Park. Picture topics need not just represent scenery, such as the Deep Creek Lake at Green Lane Park, but can also include, for example, shots of the kids and animals at the Elmwood Park Zoo. The ever-popular food pix are also welcome, say, a mouth-watering plate heaped with Ravioli di Aragosta at the L'Angolo Blue restaurant in Blue Bell.
Entrants can upload multiple photos per Instagram account per day, and up to 50 winners will be selected in recognition of their creativity and originality. Judges comprise the internal resources of the bureau, who have a long-established reputation for highlighting the assets of the county and continually presenting them in the best light, either through the spoken or written word or traditional or online imagery.
Winners receive a postcard of their shot, either to send to a friend or relative or preserve as a keepsake.
The contest closes October 2, 2013. The complete list of rules should be reviewed prior to making a submission.
