It's both the talk of the town and one of the best kept secrets in New York. Nassim Soleimanpour's internationally-acclaimed play White Rabbit Red Rabbit is a unique theatrical experience at every performance, because at every performance a different actor is handed the script for the first time as they step onto the stage.
No rehearsal. No director. No set. No spoilers.
WHITE RABBIT RED RABBIT makes its New York Premiere in its current limited engagement, playing Monday nights at Westside Theatre (407 W 43rd Street), with remaining August performances starring internet sensation, actor, and comedian Randy Rainbow (August 15) in a special benefit performance where all profits will be donated to the LGBT Center in Orlando, FL for the victims of the Pulse Nightclub Shooting; two-time Drama Desk Award winning stage and television star Michael Urie (August 22); and Emmy Award nominee and acclaimed stage actor Darren Criss (August 29).
As reported by BroadwayWorld, White Rabbit Red Rabbit extends into September with performances by Tony Award and Grammy Award winner Billy Porter (KINKY BOOTS, SHUFFLE ALONG) on September 12; by film, television and stage star Justin Bartha ("The Hangover," LEND ME A TENOR) on September 19; and by Stana Katic, star of ABC's "Castle", on September 26.
Billy Porter is, of course, a favorite among Broadway fans after his Tony-winning performance as Lola in KINKY BOOTS and his most recent turn as vaudevillian and theatre pioneer Aubrey Lyles in SHUFFLE ALONG. He was Teen Angel in the 1994 revival of GREASE, played Belize in Signature Theatre Company's 20th Anniversary production of Tony Kushner's ANGELS IN AMERICA and was one of the stars of the original Off-Broadway production of Jason Robert Brown's SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD.
As a solo recording artist, his albums include "Billy Porter: Untitled" "At The Corner of Broadway + Soul" and "Billy's Back On Broadway." As a playwright, Porter is the author of WHILE I YET LIVE, which was produced Off-Broadway by Primary Stages in 2014, starring LiLlias White and S. Epatha Merkerson.
The first video shows an assortment of Billy Porter vocal performances. It's followed by a clip from his "Live At Lincoln Center Concert" and his Tony Award speech.
Justin Bartha is best known for his roles as Riley Poole in the "National Treasure" film series, Doug Billings in "The Hangover" trilogy and as David Sawyer in the TV comedy "The New Normal."
Bartha made his Broadway debut as the nervous assistant to an opera impresario in the 2010 revival of Ken Ludwig's LEND ME A TENOR, which starred Tony Shalhoub, Anthony LaPaglia, Brooke Adams and Jan Maxwell and was directed by Stanley Tucci. Last year he starred Off-Broadway with Elizabeth Reaser in Robert Askins' PERMISSION, a comedy about couples who express their love a bit non-traditionally. Promos for both plays are seen below, followed by a taste of "The Hangover."
Stana Katic is best known for playing Kate Beckett on the ABC series "Castle," for which she won two People's Choice Awards for Favorite TV Crime Drama Actress. Her film appearances include roles in "Feast of Love," "The Spirit," "Quantum of Solace" and "The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice." She'll be starring in the upcoming Lifetime Television adaptation of Colette Freedman's play SISTER CITIES, premiering Saturday, September 17 at 8pm ET/PT.
Catch a scene from "Castle" below, followed by an appearance on "The View" and a scene from "The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice" where Katic displays her singing skills.
