Broadway favorite Marin Mazzie, who has thrilled audiences with her dramatic performances in PASSION and RAGTIME and made 'em laugh in KISS ME, KATE and BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, is now receiving accolades as the new Anna in Lincoln Center Theater's sumptuous production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's THE KING AND I.
There's an extra layer of joy to see Mazzie's return to the stage. Her last major New York appearance was as "The Leader" in last year's Encores! concert revival of ZORBA. It must have seemed a cruel irony that the opening performance of Kander and Ebb's dark musical about life's inevitability came only hours after Mazzie received word that she had ovarian cancer.
In a frank and open discussion with PBS' MetroFocus, Mazzie decribes the process of what she calls "healing therapy" and the excitement of being back on Broadway.

Three-time Tony Award nominee Marin Mazzie and Daniel Dae Kim now star in the Tony Award-winning production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. The production ends its triumphant run on June 26th.
Winner of four 2015 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical, Lincoln Center Theater's production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I boasts a cast of 51 featuring Ruthie Ann Miles (Tony Award winner - Best Featured Actress in a Musical; as Lady Thiang), Ashley Park (as Tuptim), Conrad Ricamora (as Lun Tha), Edward Baker-Duly (as Sir Edward Ramsey), Jon Viktor Corpuz (as Prince Chulalongkorn), Paul Nakauchi (as Kralahome), Marc Oka (as Phra Alack), Rocco Sisto (as Captain Orton), and Nicky Torchia (as Louis).
One of Rodgers & Hammerstein's finest works, The King and I boasts a score which features such beloved classics as Getting To Know You; Hello, Young Lovers; Shall We Dance?; I Have Dreamed; and Something Wonderful. Set in 1860's Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher, whom the imperious King brings to Siam to tutor his many wives and children.
