James Corden shares his father's interesting reaction to his upcoming late-night talk show when the new host of CBS's THE LATE LATE SHOW makes his first visit to the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, tonight, Friday, Nov. 21 (11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Below, watch a sneak peek at tonight's appearance!
"When you tell your parents, my God, the boy's going to be a fixture on American television, what is their reaction?" Letterman asked. "Oh, it's madness," Corden replied. "Well, my dad's phone - he was genuinely so proud - like, he kind of welled up a little bit because, you know, people texting and emailing and calling. And, you know, to have your own show in America is, you know, to me is mind-blowing, let alone to my dad. And he was asking about the show, and I was telling him about it, and I was saying that it's after your show, which he couldn't believe, and then he said, 'Well, what time is it on?' And I told him it was on at 12:30, and his whole face just dropped... He couldn't even comprehend that anyone would even be watching television at 12:30, let alone making television that would be on. And he actually said, he just said the phrase '12:30' three times... He went, '12:30? 12:30?' Then he went, 'Half-past midnight?' He went, 'Well, what time does it end?' And I said, 'Well, it ends at 1:30,' and he went, 'Well, they might as well call it 'The Early Early Show.'" "Well, he does have a point there," Letterman said, as the audience laughed. "He was like, 'James, this sounds [like] a terrible idea!'" Corden said, laughing. Corden's entire interview can be seen on the LATE SHOW tonight.
As previously announced, the 36-year-old Corden will make his debut as host of THE LATE LATE SHOW Monday, March 9, 2015(12:37-1:37 AM, ET/PT). Corden succeeds Craig Ferguson, the critically acclaimed host of THE LATE LATE SHOW for the past 10 years. Ferguson announced his intention to leave the show during his April 28 broadcast, and will sign off on Dec. 19, 2014. Also, the Tony Award and BAFTA-winning Corden stars in the highly anticipated feature film "Into the Woods," which will premiere in theaters Dec. 25.
Also featured on the LATE SHOW tonight is an interview with television legend Norman Lear, who is the author of the new memoirEven This I Get to Experience, and a performance by musical guests TV on the Radio.
