EW has an exclusive sneak peek of Jennifer Hudson's guest starring appearance on the upcoming season of SMASH. In the clip from Season 2's fourth episode, Hudson's character Veronica Moore sings a new original song, 'I Can't Let Go,' written by the show's composers and executive producers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. In Season 2, SMASH will introduce a second new musical, 'Hit List', which will compete with season one's Broadway-bound 'Bombshell'. "If you look at Broadway, there are shows that take place in the 1800s and shows that take place today," explains Safran. "I wanted to represent that [on our show]." The second season of SMASH will include a growing list of high-profile guest stars, including Hairspray's Nikki Blonsky, Jesse L. Martin, Sean Hayes, Liza Minnelli, Jennifer Hudson and Bernadette Peters. The second season is set for a February 5 premiere on NBC.
