On this day in 2011, comedian Kathy Griffin began her quest for theatrical recognition with her one woman Broadway show Kathy Griffin WANTS A TONY.

Dishing on all things pop culture and shining a light on inappropriate water cooler talk "Kathy Griffin WANTS A TONY featured the comedian in her element, with all new material with her signature hilarious observations on pop culture and run-ins with celebrities.

The show marked the first time the Tony Awards have been mentioned by name in the title of a Broadway show. In a cruel twist of fate, however, Tony voters rendered the show ineligible for a Tony.
