Now enjoying its second Broadway revival, many would call Michael Frayne's NOISES OFF the funniest play of the 20th Century. His madcap farce, where the backstage issues of a touring theatre company start spilling onstage during performances, requires a set that can be seen from both sides.
That's where Tony-winning set designer Derek McLane comes in. In this mini-backstage tour, McLane shows NBC's Raina Seitel how his creation is built to help make all the hilarious physical comedy possible, including over 100 door slams per performance.
Noises Off plays through Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the American Airlines Theatre (227 West 42nd Street).
The cast features Andrea Martin as "Dotty Otley," Campbell Scott as "Lloyd Dallas,"Tracee Chimo as "Poppy Norton-Taylor,"Daniel Davis as "Selsdon Mowbray," David Furr as "Garry Lejeune," Kate Jennings Grant as "Belinda Blair," Megan Hilty as "Brooke Ashton,"Rob McClure as "Tim Allgood" and Jeremy Shamos as "Frederick Fellowes."
Full of shocking surprises and gut-busting humor, Noises Off is the classic show-within-a-show. The opening night performance of the farce Nothing On is just hours away, and as the cast stumbles through their final dress rehearsal, things couldn't be going any worse. With lines being forgotten, love triangles unraveling and sardines flying everywhere, it's complete pandemonium...and we haven't even reached intermission! Can the cast pull their act together on the stage even if they can't behind the scenes?
The creative team for Noises Off includes: Derek McLane (Sets), Michael Krass (Costumes), Jane Cox (Lighting) andChristopher Cronin (Sound), Todd Almond (Original Music), Paul Huntley (Hair & Wigs), Lorenzo Pisoni (Comedy Stunts) and Elizabeth Smith (Dialects).
