"All of a sudden we're in the room where it happens, / The room where it happens, / The room where it happens. / Women are suddenly in the room where it happens, / The room where it happens."

"I couldn't resist that," Meryl Street cheerfully admitted to tonight's audience, as she delivered the closing speech of the 7th Annual Women In The World Summit.

The film and stage star was using Lin-Manuel Miranda's HAMILTON lyric to make a point about how new the concept of gender inclusion is when you compare it with the history of humankind.

"You can make a case that, along with the technological revolution, the most provocative, upending, destabilizing, thrilling change in the course of human history is that we're finally in it."

Spearheaded by Tina Brown, Women in the World is a digital platform hosted on the New York Times' website, that features activists, artists, CEOs, peacemakers, entrepreneurs, and firebrand dissidents. They've saved and enriched lives and shattered glass ceilings in every sector.

Streep's singing performance begins at the 15:57 mark of the video, after she introduced seven of the "fearless, undaunted, relentless women" whose stories and mission stood out over the course of the Summit, inviting them to issue their own calls to action.

They are the ones making things happen in the room.
