IF/THEN star Idina Menzel stopped by last night's 'Charlie Rose' on PBS to talk about returning to Broadway in her new musical, her hit song 'Let It Go' from Disney's Frozen and what it takes to be at the top of her game. Check out the interview in full below!
"I saw Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in that version of 'A Star is Born' and it was her really her," Menzel says of her earliest inspiration. "It was the first album I ever owned, I used to just listen to it constantly. Something about her voice, she had so much control over it but yet was so unabandoned at the same time, her emotional connection and the range just struck a chord with me and I just wanted to achieve that."
Idina Menzel rose to prominence when she originated the role of 'Maureen' in the hit Broadway musical RENT, a role which she reprised for the 2005 feature film adaptation of the musical. She received a Tony Award nomination in 1996 for her portrayal. In 2004, she won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for originating the role of 'Elphaba' in the blockbuster Broadway musical WICKED. Menzel made her return to Broadway in the 2014 musical IF/THEN and was nominated for a 2014 Tony Award for her performance.
