Broadway veteran Idina Menzel entertained a massive crowd Saturday evening at the Berkshire's iconic concert venue, Tanglewood. The IF/THEN star opened the evening with a show-stopping version of WICKED's "Defying Gravity," and never looked back. Other stunning performances included Radiohead's "Creep", and a cover of Cole Porter's "Love For Sale", which cleverly segued into a moving rendition of The Police standard, "Roxanne".
A highlight of the evening came when Menzel began to sing the number that young fans in the audience had been waiting for all night, "Let It Go," the hit song from Disney's FROZEN. Midway through the performance, the Tony winner asked all audience members who were no taller than knee-high to join her up on stage. Needless to say, the Elsa-wannabes were only too happy to oblige.
Following the first chorus of the song, Menzel joked to the crowd, "I think we should do it another 10 million times - your parents aren't sick of this or anything!" Watch video from the special number below!
Idina Menzel will follow up her 2015 World Tour with a return to her Tony-nominated role as 'Elizabeth' in IF/THEN, when the musical launches its US tour in Denver this fall, and then in six more cities.
The actress made her Broadway debut as 'Maureen' in the Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winner RENT, for which she received a Tony Award nomination. She followed that with her Tony Award-winning performance as 'Elphaba' in WICKED, which she subsequently brought to London's West End.
Other New York stage work includes SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE (Public), THE WILD PARTY (MTC), and HAIR (Encores!). Menzel's voice can be heard in the Disney animated musical, FROZEN, singing its Oscar nominated song, "Let It Go". She reprised her performance as 'Maureen' in Chris Columbus' film version of RENT, and has appeared in movies as diverse as ENCHANTED and ASK THE DUST.
On television, Menzel had a recurring role over multiple seasons of GLEE and has guest starred in numerous other shows. She starred in her own PBS special, Barefoot at the Symphony, with an accompanying live album of the same name. Menzel's highly successful international concert tour recently included a sold out performance at Carnegie Hall. In addition to cast albums, Menzel's prolific recording career includes solo albums: Barefoot At The Symphony, I Stand, Here, and Still I Can't Be Still.
