Last night, the winners of the 2016 edition of the "Latin American Music Awards" were announced during a live broadcast on Telemundo. (click here for full list of winners!) The awards ceremony featured performances by top English and Spanish-language singers, never before seen collaborations and an emotional multi-act homage to the late Juan Gabriel. The high profile event took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California and was broadcast simultaneously in NBC UNIVERSO and in 21 Latin American countries through Telemundo Internacional.

Among the night's performers was Tony Award winner Idina Menzel, who sang a number from her newly released self-titled album. Speaking to USA Today on the Music Awards' red carpet, Menzel explained that she has a special connection to her Latin fans, who often travel from all over the world to see her concerts. "I really want to connect to these fans because they're so supportive," she explains. "I'm so glad and flattered that I've been given the opportunity to sing something from my album here, in this community. It's really a gift." Watch the interview in full below!

Menzel's newly released self-titled album is currently in the top 10 on the iTunes charts. The star's voice can be heard as Elsa in Disney's global box office smash "Frozen," in which she sings the film's Oscar-winning song "Let It Go," and in the follow-up short, "Frozen Fever."

Menzel earned her first Tony nomination as Maureen in the Pulitzer Prize winner RENT and won the award for her performance as Elphaba in WICKED. Other notable projects include "Glee" and Disney's "Enchanted." She most recently appeared on Broadway in IF/THEN.
