Whenever 3-time Tony Award-winner Frank Langella takes the Broadway stage, it's a major event. After taking the Supporting Actor prize in 1975 for Edward Albee's SEASCAPE, he became a matinee idol leading man in the title role of DRACULA. His unforgettable stage turns include FORTUNE'S FOOL and FROST/NIXON.
Now Manhattan Theatre Club's Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) have placed Frank Langella in the center of the American premiere of The Father, the new play by Molière Award winner Florian Zeller, in a translation by two-time Tony Award winner Christopher Hampton (Sunset Boulevard, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, God of Carnage). Tony Award winner Doug Hughes (Doubt, Outside Mullingar, City of Conversation) directs the production at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street).
Langella plays 80 year old André, a former tap dance who lives with his daughter Anne and her husband Antoine. Or was he an engineer whose daughter Anne lives in London with her new lover, Pierre? The thing is, he is still wearing his pajamas, and he can't find his watch. He is starting to wonder if he's losing control.
Here's a taste of what to expect from Frank Langella in THE FATHER.
