While productions like HAMILTON, SPRING AWAKENING, ALLEGIANCE, ON YOUR FEET, THE GIN GAME, AMAZING GRACE and the upcoming SHUFFLE ALONG and ECLIPSED are adding up to what might be Broadway's most diverse season ever, issues of race, especially when it comes to casting, are still making news.

One issue that often arises for non-white actors in America is that of limited portrayals of ethnic groups that present characters as simplistic stereotypes. In a Mic video hosted by Elizabeth Plank, actor Arturo Castro, who was born and raised in Guatemala, helps with an experiment.

Castro can currently be seen as the loveable Jaime on Comedy Central's BROAD CITY, and relates how he's constantly being asked to put on thick, unrealistic accents at auditions.

But in this scenario, he's the one behind the table conducting the audition and asking the white hopefuls in front of him to "be whiter."
